¡Se habla ingles!

The Hispanic Business Council is not just for those who speak Spanish, but for those who see the future – the growth of the Latino community as a whole in central Florida. The Goal of the Hispanic Business Council is to raise awareness of the Hispanic business community and connect Hispanic businesses with the corporate business community through Chamber programs and events.

The Hispanic Business Council invites any members of the business community to join us at our monthly meetings. HBC meets on the 2nd Thursday of each month at 8:30 am, Chamber Board Room

  • Segundo Tuesday was Especial! Ocala’s most innovative downtown organization, the Institute of Human and Machine Cognition (IHMC), was the site of the Hispanic Business Council’s “Segundo Tuesday” series event on August 17. Alberto Cañas, PhD, IHMC’s co-founder with Dr. Ken Ford, came from Pensacola to lead the lecture on “Hispanics Advancing Technology.” Pictured here, Dr. Cañas’ presentation depicted typical learning, in one ear and out the other, compared to concept mapping, a graphic methodology of learning that is not only practiced at IHMC, but with schoolchildren around the world.

IHMC has a number of Hispanics from five countries performing research on the tongue implant to provide sight, human centered flight displays and pressurized suitlock rover concepts for NASA. The cutting edge technology being explored in downtown Ocala sounds like the stuff of science fiction, but is today’s reality. The event was attended by 75 people, including local dignitaries from the City and Gounty government.
