AUGUST CANDIDATES’ FORUM 

Ocala/Marion County Chamber of Commerce kicks off the election season by inviting

Primary Election Candidates to be heard

 

Ocala, FL – Candidates vying for the non-partisan offices of Circuit Judge, County Court Judge and Marion County School Board  have been invited to participate in a Candidates’ Forum hosted by the Ocala/Marion County Chamber of Commerce on Monday, August 28, 2006 at Hilton Ocala.  The Forum will broadcast live on the Marion Educational Channel to nearly 200,000 households at 6:00 p.m. and rebroadcast five times prior to the Primary Election on September 5, 2006.  The Forum will be closed to the public, with the exception of media.

Each candidate will have one minute to introduce themselves and three minutes to respond to questions from a panel of representatives of the Chamber Board of Directors. Candidates are given one minute for closing remarks.

 

  Kevin Christian of Marion County School Board and Rosey Moreno-Jones of Cox Communications will serve as the moderators  The three panelists representing the Chamber of Commerce are Bill Evans of SunTrust Bank, Lola Gonzalez of Accurate Background Check, Inc. and the Chamber’s Hispanic Business Council Chair and Karen Reed of Cingular Wireless.  Candidate questions were solicited from Chamber members and the final three questions to be posed selected by the Chamber’s Primary Candidates Forum committee. Candidates will not be provided with questions prior to air.  Currently scheduled broadcast times are:

August 28th at 6:00 p.m. – LIVE

August 30th and 31st at 6:00 p.m. – Rebroadcast

September 2nd and 3rd at 2:00 p.m. – Rebroadcast

September 4th at 6:00 p.m. – Rebroadcast

 

The Forum will air on the following channels:

Cox - Channel 12

Bright House - Channel 17

Comcast - Channel 99

Cablevision of Marion County - Channel 13

Oak Run and Pine Run - Channel 19

Ocala Palms - Channel 11

The Ocala/Marion County Chamber of Commerce will hold a Candidates’ Forum and Hob Nob for the General Election on Monday, October 16, 2006 at the Hilton Ocala.  The public will be invited to purchase a ticket for the Hob Nob and have the opportunity to watch the Candidates Forum live.  For more information on upcoming issues and election news, visit VoteforFlorida.org.
